New Zealand Certificate in Outdoor Leadership (Guiding) (Level 5), plus Core Elective: standards 31728 (Apply knowledge of river rescue skills and techniques for Grade 4 or 5 rivers), 31713 (Prepare, guide and evaluate a raft trip) and 31709 (Demonstrate raft guiding skills and techniques for Grade 4 or 5 river trips). Plus, must be at least 18 years of age. Plus, 50 hours on moving water up to and including Grade 4/5. Plus, NZQA Unit Standard 6400 or equivalent
OR
National Raft Guide Award - Raft Grade 4/5
OR
National Certificate in Outdoor Recreation L4 (River Guide) plus Core Elective: standard 26515
Can guide clients on Grade 4/5 rivers under the direct supervision of a senior guide.
Direct supervision means that the senior guide must be on the same trip and be in a position to frequently see and communicate with the guide.
