NZC in Avalanche Risk Management L5 Practitioner (NZ Avalanche Stage One)
Note: This qualification replaces the NZ Avalanche Stage 1 qualification for professional practitioners. Holders of this qualification can maintain currency registration by meeting the below requirements.
Individuals with this qualification have the knowledge and skills to manage personal risk from avalanche hazards while carrying out activities in dynamic outdoor contexts. They are able to work independently and contribute to the daily operation of, and work under, a Safety Management System.
Continuing Professional development (CPD) requirements
Total minimum CPD points required to meet re-registration requirements across all CPD Criteria
- 50 points over a 3 year period
Professional practice and participation
44 points can be made up of a mixture of the following:
- 1 point per day – operating with others in avalanche terrain, managing hazards in avalanche terrain within scope of qualification held
- 2 points per day – for attending avalanche related group meetings or participation in meeting where there is a sharing of knowledge and judgements (e.g. NZSAC, AEG, NZAA, etc)
- 2 points per day – mentoring/coaching others as they manage hazards in avalanche terrain
Learning activities
A minimum of 6 points – this can be made up of a mixture of the following:
- 2 points per day – attending conferences, workshops, educational presentations, training programmes
- 2 points for each contributions to knowledge – Develop published codes, develop standards, Peer reviewed publications, Reviewing articles for publication
- 1 point per day – self-directed learning, Non-reviewed articles
Attestation
50 points can be gained through the following:
· An attestation from an NZRRP registered NZC ARM L6/NZ Avalanche Stage 2 practitioner that they have witnessed the professional practice in the field and that the practitioner is current in their knowledge and practice.
First Aid requirements – PHEC or above or recognised equivalent (current at time of re-registration)
Referee: Employer, manager, mentor, or peer willing to endorse that the candidate is fit for role, of good character, and can validate the above provided. Not required if Attestation provided.
