New Zealand Certificate in Outdoor Leadership (Guiding) (Level 5), plus Core Elective: standard 31727 (Apply knowledge of river rescue skills and techniques for Grade 3 rivers), 31713 (Prepare, guide and evaluate a raft trip) and 31708 (Demonstrate raft guiding skills and techniques for Grade 3 river trips). Plus, must be at least 18 years of age. Plus, NZQA Unit Standard 6400 or equivalent. Plus, 50 hours on moving water up to and including Grade 3.

National Raft Guide Award - Raft Grade 3
OR
National Certificate in Outdoor Recreation L4 (River Guide) plus Core Elective: standard 26514
Guide clients on rivers up to and including Grade 3 under the supervision of a senior guide. Direct supervision means that the senior guide must be on the same trip and be in a position to frequently see and communicate with the guide.
